Zero-Daemon Search: Microsecond Full-Text Search with FTS5

Sub-millisecond tokenized searching and bm25 ranking across thousands of posts without Elasticsearch or Algolia.

Zero-Daemon Search: Microsecond Full-Text Search with FTS5

Search is often the first feature that tempts engineering teams to add external infrastructure. Services like Algolia charge monthly subscriptions, while Elasticsearch requires gigabytes of dedicated JVM memory.

SQLite FTS5 Virtual Tables

SQLite includes FTS5, an inverted-index full-text search engine built directly into the database engine.

CREATE VIRTUAL TABLE posts_fts USING fts5(
  title,
  excerpt,
  content_markdown,
  content='posts',
  content_rowid='id'
);

With automatic SQLite triggers, inserts and updates to articles synchronize seamlessly. Queries execute in less than 1 millisecond with native Porter stemmer support and BM25 relevance scoring.
