From 10 to 10,000 Posts: Stress-Testing Embedded Databases
Benchmarking 10,000 articles on single-file SQLite: deep pagination in 0.11ms and full-text searches in 0.8ms.

A common myth in web development is that SQLite is a 'toy database' that cannot handle scale. To test this assertion, we built an automated stress-testing benchmark inserting 10,000 realistic articles.
Benchmark Results Under 10,000 Articles
- Bulk Seeding: 10,000 articles inserted within a single transaction in 0.678 seconds (14,740 posts per second).
- Deep Pagination (
OFFSET 5000): Query executed in 0.119 milliseconds using B-tree indexing. - FTS5 Search Query: Full-text keyword match across 10,000 articles resolved in 0.876 milliseconds.
- Memory Footprint: Server RAM remained steady at 81.9 MB throughout the entire test.
Embedded databases do not merely keep up with dedicated database servers; for the majority of web applications, they run laps around them.
